Tell me a little bit about the history and the style of Vita Imana. How would you describe the evolution of the band?

Our band is based on percussion as the most important factor for our compositions and live performance. Punk, metal and hardcore are our main influences. We’ve grown considerably, step by step, but with one firm idea in mind – Vita Imana writes for itself and with the goal of doing what we want, allowing no one to make influence in our songs. [separator style”line” /]

What is the meaning behind the name “Vita Imana“?

It comes from a dialect spoken in Congo, Africa. It´s got a lot of meanings but the one we like the most is: “The time of fire” We are a band that gives every part of it when we’re performing live, we’re relentless and in some way that’s the power of fire – it’s enigmatic, attracting and alive. [separator style”line” /]

Is Vita Imana currently working on new material? If so, can you tell us a bit about that?

Nowadays we’re on tour around Spain and having some shows out of the country, but we’re composing new songs as well. In fact, we’ve just finished two new songs for our upcoming album for 2016. We can’t wait for our fourth studio album to come! Vita Imana is still growing personally and musically. [separator style”line” /]

What’s different in the music industry today compared to when you first started, and would you do anything differently if you were just entering the industry today?

Things have changed in Spain lately, and now it is way more complicated to make a breach in the local music scene. There are no labels interested in local bands as there aren’t any radio programs or relevant TV programs.

Small websites and local radios make a good job without any financial support and I can assure you bands have a good level here, much more than when I first started.

We make it work with the resources we have but it becomes more complicated every day. [separator style”line” /]

What advice would you give to a band just starting out?

I am no one to give any advice, but I can speak from my own personal experience so high five if these words help anybody!

First thing: Believe in the music you create. It’s very important to stand behind what comes from your soul, it’s an uncommon value that not all the bands have by the time they start this journey.

You can tell when a band blindly believes in what they do, especially when they’re playing live. That’s a vital and transcendental energy that metalheads want to feel in the shows. [separator style”line” /]

Are the songs a collaborative effort, or does the band have a main songwriter? How does the music affect the lyrics and vice versa?

Songs are made by all of us always using democracy as the foundation for our understanding. Lyrics are my own business but I’m welcome to suggestions and modifications. [separator style”line” /]

What is your musical upbringing when you were young? Did you come from a musical family? Did your family support you in your musical decision? What bands or musicians have influenced you the most?

100% Self-taught! No love for the music in my family except for me! When I first started this awesome rock world it was very clear in my mind.

Wow!! There are a ton of bands that inspired me, such as:
IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER, METALLICA, GOJIRA, BLACK SABBATH, SOZIEDAD ALKOHÓLIKA, HAMLET, HATEBREED, SEPULTURA, CANNIBAL CORPSE, NAPALM DEATH, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, ISIS, KATATONIA, GHOST BRIGADE, NIRVANA, MACHINE HEAD (inicios), PANTERA, CROWBAR, TOOL, PORCUPINE TREE, GODSMACK, SCORPIONS, PEARL JAM, NOPRESION, SLIPKNOT. [separator style”line” /]

In which ways do you think the band has matured musically between the formation of the band and the present day?

We are more open minded now in my opinion, we’ve created our own fusion, and sound a different way to conceive the music we make. We’ve improved naturally each of us, and knowing some other bands that have influenced us as well.

[Our] roots [are] still intact [and] we love other ambient concepts to bring more dynamics and depth to our songs. [separator style”line” /]

Besides Spain, what countries do you enjoy playing in the most? Or is there any certain Festival that you enjoy more than others? Are there any countries or festivals that you look forward to playing that you have not played in/at yet? Are there any plans to tour the U.S. in the near future?

We’re ready to play anywhere but Wacken Open Air (Germany) was my best musical experience in life. Playing in front of 100K people it´s not a thing you do every day like we did at Rock al Parque (Colombia)

Japan. It would be a perfect place to bring our show. I love their culture, and I know Aikido. Vita Imana drinks from Japanese traditional percussion: Taikos. [separator style”line” /]

What is your favorite song to perform live?

Tough decision – maybe “Ablepsia” is the one that brings all my aggressiveness when I´m singing it! [separator style”line” /]

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down and chatting with us. Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?

Thank you guys and especially you SCOTT, we will let our fans know in our next show what we have to say! Big hugs and I wish to see you in U.S. lands very soon!

IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER, METALLICA, GOJIRA, BLACK SABBATH, SOZIEDAD ALKOHÓLIKA, HAMLET, HATEBREED, SEPULTURA, CANNIBAL CORPSE, NAPALM DEATH, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, ISIS, KATATONIA, GHOST BRIGADE, NIRVANA, MACHINE HEAD (inicios), PANTERA, CROWBAR, TOOL, PORCUPINE TREE, GODSMACK, SCORPIONS, PEARL JAM, NOPRESION, SLIPKNOT. [separator style”line” /]
