What fan of rock and metal isn’t also a fan of horror? When Antihero Magazine found out that The Casket Creatures, the horror rock band from Atlanta, was going to be in Charlotte playing at the Days of the Dead convention, it clicked; why haven’t we covered a horror convention yet? 2 birds, 1 stone.
There were tons of familiar faces from modern horror, but mostly the nostalgic characters we’ve all grown to love, including Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Sid Haig, guitar legend Vinnie Vincent, Dee Snider from Twisted Sister and the movie ‘Strangeland’, Linda Blair, Tony Todd in character as Candyman, and many more including all the Dream Warriors, the tortured teens from Nightmare on Elm Street 3.
Also, at the convention was a few dozen horror vendors that offered everything from horror FX makeup to toys to t-shirts. If you need a break from spending money and meeting celebrities then you can always check out the costume contests, relax in the screening room to check out one of dozens of indie horror films, check out bands like Elzig or The Casket Creatures, sit in on some panels covering everything from Bigfoot to horror makeup and much more.
Overall, my first convention was an amazing time and there is always something to do and see and I’ll definitely attempt to cover it again next year!
