Album Review: WORHOL – The Awakening

WorholWhen it comes to Symphonic Rock, let’s face it, there really isn’t any American bands in the fight. In a genre that was born and molded by foreign bands, we have always been trying to play catch up to the bands that perfected the genre and turned it into what it is today. We had a powerhouse in Evansecence that gave us a dog in the fight, but with the band breaking up and reuniting, we really don’t know how long this will last. Could there be a band that could bring us back? Could there be a voice as powerful as Amy Lee’s? Most importantly with all these questions, would the music be good?

The answer to all those questions is a huge “yes”; their name is Worhol.

The Texas-based Symphonic rock act share the same name as the famous artist, Andy Warhol, who is a distant relative of father-daughter founders, Ashley and Larry, who are both classically trained musicians.

Ashley, an operatically trained vocalist, brings powerful vocals to the music while her father creates the scores and riffs for the band’s breathtaking sound. From the very first track on the band’s debut release, The Awakening, you can hear the passion for the music seeping out of every note and every lyric. Ashley’s soft yet powerful vocal range is literally music to your ears, mixed with the classic rock influences in the guitar riffs, creating a sound that is familiar yet unique in the same breath.

What can you expect from The Awakening?

Well, first, prepare to be awakened. The ten-track, 45-minute release fires on every cylinder, at times making you think that you are listening to a band that has been around for decades. For me it was hard to pick out a favorite track from this one, but if I had to it would be the album’s opening track, “Voices From Above.” This song by itself establishes Worhol’s sound, letting you know what you can expect from the rest of the album, setting the expectations for the remainder of the release.

Honestly, I didn’t want this one to end. The mix of heavy tones and the eclectic mix of instruments did not in any way overpower Ashley’s voice, I think it enhanced it. I can’t say enough positive things about this one, so I’ll stop before this turns into a love letter.

If you are a fan of Symphonic Rock/Goth you will not want to miss this one when it is released via Imminence Records on July 14th, 2017. The record will be available on all major streaming and download sites and can also be preordered by clicking the link here  http://smarturl.it/4cw85b
