Live Review: Corrosion of Conformity with Pure American Filth & Hössferatu – Warehouse on Broadway, Kansas City, MO, October 9, 2025
By Thomas Woroniak – Antihero Magazine
Kansas City’s Warehouse on Broadway was buzzing with raw anticipation on Thursday night as Corrosion of Conformity brought their southern-fried thunder back to the Midwest. With Pepper Keenan, Woody Weatherman, Bobby Landgraf, and Jason Patterson now locking into a new yet familiar groove, the North Carolina legends proved that their chemistry remains both fiery and instinctive — a testament to over four decades of evolution and unshakable authenticity. “Four decades deep, Corrosion of Conformity continue to operate on their own wavelength — heavy, human, and unapologetically real.”
Hössferatu – Doom, Smoke, and Rituals
The evening began under a haze of red light and feedback as Hössferatu took the stage. The Kansas City troupe conjured an atmosphere thick with menace and melody, merging occult doom and sludge into something hypnotic and ritualistic. Their set was a slow-motion descent into shadow — heavy, deliberate, and impossible to ignore. The crushing low-end and trance-like repetition built an oppressive energy that lingered long after their final note faded, setting the perfect atmosphere for what was to come.
Pure American Filth – Rust-Belt Riffs and Grit
Pure American Filth followed with a fiery display of grit and groove, channeling the raw energy of southern metal through a punk-fueled filter. Their sound was all whiskey and distortion, their attitude pure barroom rebellion. Frontman Shane Kline prowled the stage, his gravelly voice cutting through waves of fuzz-drenched riffing. With their unpolished energy and unapologetic swagger, Pure American Filth felt like a band destined to break out of the underground.
Corrosion of Conformity – Groove, Grit, and Grace
By the time the lights dimmed and the opening roar of “Bottom Feeder (El que come abajo)” tore through the PA, the crowd was already in motion. Corrosion of Conformity wasted no time reminding everyone why they’ve remained a cornerstone of American heavy music for more than forty years.
With Pepper Keenan’s signature growl leading the charge, the band powered through “King of the Rotten” and “Seven Days” with effortless swagger. Woody Weatherman’s lead guitar work was on fire — loose, soulful, and razor-sharp — while Bobby Landgraf on bass injected a fresh sense of power into the low end. The addition of Jason Patterson behind the kit brought a touch of southern groove, his drumming a perfect mix of precision and feel, adding texture without ever losing the grit.
The middle of the set dove deep into fan-favorite territory with “Señor Limpio”, “Wiseblood”, and “Who’s Got the Fire” — each delivered with an intensity that proved C.O.C. hasn’t lost a step. “My Grain” and “Shake Like You” hit especially hard, their swampy rhythms transforming the Warehouse into a mass of nodding heads and raised fists.
By the time “Paranoid Opioid” and “13 Angels” rolled through, the band had hit full stride, balancing heaviness and groove with uncanny chemistry. The main set closer, “Vote With a Bullet,” ignited the crowd — a defiant anthem that still cuts as sharp as it did in the ‘90s.
The encore was pure catharsis: “Albatross” rolled in like a southern storm, its bluesy swagger amplified by Keenan’s weathered yet commanding vocal. Then came “Clean My Wounds” — stretched and expanded into a jammed-out, soulful finale that encapsulated everything C.O.C. stands for: heart, heaviness, and absolute honesty. “With Jason Patterson and Bobby Landgraf locking in alongside Keenan and Weatherman, C.O.C. feels revitalized — like a muscle memory reborn.”
Final Thoughts
Four decades deep, Corrosion of Conformity continue to operate on their own wavelength — heavy, human, and unapologetically real. With Patterson and Landgraf locking in alongside Keenan and Weatherman, the band feels revitalized and grounded, like a muscle memory reborn. Supported by two potent local acts in Hössferatu and Pure American Filth, this Kansas City stop was more than a concert — it was a reaffirmation of groove-laden, southern-drenched heavy metal at its most honest.
