Torche’s New Album, Restarter, Released Today
“…gloriously fuzzy, sludgy, hard-hitting fourth album from four of loud rock’s most adroit genre-benders” – Entertainment Weekly “The Must List”
“…Torche have made their most compelling record since Meanderthal.” – Pitchfork
“It feels like a Big Rock Album, the kind that we barely get from any band these days, no matter what part of the mainstream or underground they hail from.” – Spin (Album of the Week)
“…Torche’s music connects muscle, songcraft and drive in a way that few bands of recent vintage can match.” – Chicago Tribune (Greg Kot)
Feb. 24, 2015, Philadelphia – Torche release Restarter, the hard rock outfit’s fourth album and Relapse Record’s debut, today. The critically acclaimed collection is streaming in its entirety via Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/relapserecords/sets/torche-restarter).
The band will unveil an animated video for “Annihilation Affair” during the week of March 9. A teaser for the clip, which was directed by Phil Mucci (High on Fire, Monster Magnet, Stone Sour), can be seen here: http://youtu.be/ZyZKd0IkJG0.
The ten-song release has received praise from a wide swath of outlets with Entertainment Weekly including Restarter in this week’s “Must List”, Pitchfork dubbing the album “their most compelling record since Meandrathal” and Spin crowning the release their “album of the week.”
Restarter was recorded at the band’s Miami studio, Pinecrust, with bass player Jonathan Nuñez overseeing production and Converge’s Kurt Ballou once again returning to handle mixing. In a Spring 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Nuñez said of the new material: “Some people will think it’s different, but has continuity with the other stuff. But there will be the people who come back and say, ‘Oh, I like them again. They’re heavier than ever.’ That word will be brought up a lot.”
