The darkness was broken with a single light illuminating Combichrist vocalist Andy LaPlegua, his dark lyrics from “The Evil in Me,” cast a chill upon the historic Granada Theater – “We welcome you to the city of hate, where we’re blind. We clash in the streets, you’ll hear the sound of broken bones and we say, it’s alright.

Supporting their 2014 release We Love You, Combichrist members Andy LaPlegua, Joe Letz, Z. Marr, Eric 13, and Brent Ashley, brought their North American tour to Lawrence, Kansas. Their eclectic metal sound whipped the diverse crowd at the Granada Theater into a heated frenzy. With a full set list containing fan favorites from their six studio albums, Combichrist left their Kansas fans energy-drained and satisfied.

This leg of the tour gave equal billing to The Birthday Massacre, a dark wave Canadian band formed in 1999 that has released seven studio albums. In support of their 2014 release Superstition members Chibi, Rainbow, M. Falcore, Rhim, Owen, and Nate Manor thrilled Lawrence fans with titles like, “Red Stars,” “Pins and Needles,” “Blue,” and “In the Dark.”

Joining the two headliners was dark alternative rock band Echo Black – featuring Danny Blu, Felix Skiver, Rob Gnarly, and Billy Long – in support of their debut single “Burn Another Day” which features Davey Suicide. Rounding out this leg of the tour was the funeral pop duo of MXMS, a.k.a Ariel Levitan and Jeremy Dawson.
