Introducing…Cleveland’s OHIO SKY
Forward Thinking Rockers Releasing The Big Distraction on January 24 via Cellar Door Records
(Cleveland, Ohio): It’s time for a national introduction to forward-thinking Cleveland quartet Ohio Sky.
The band is gearing up for the release of its new album The Big Distraction, out January 24 through Cellar Door Records. Since their formation five years ago, Ohio Sky have earned major distinctions and accolades from local press. Not only were they christened the “Best Rock Band” by the 2013 Cleveland Scene Music Awards, but they were also named one of the “Bands to Watch in 2015” by that same publication.
The band will celebrate its album release with a hometown show on January 24 at The House of Blues Cambridge Room, with support from fellow Clevelanders Nights and Columbus band EYE. This record release show was also deemed one of 365 things to do in the city in 2015 by Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
Clearly, the relationship between Ohio Sky and the region that birthed them is loyal and reciprocal, and not just because of its name, either.
However, the band is ready to step onto the national stage with The Big Distraction.
The album is marked by the deft interplay of heavy and light, quiet and loud. It’s bolstered by soaring melodies, room-filling rhythms, and undulating riffs, all of which are tempered by space rock atmosphere.
The album is truly the culmination of the band’s sound. It’s noisy, it’s atmospheric, and it will leave a mark. Fans of think-outside-the-box rock bands like The Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, The Deftones, and Converge will certainly flock to Ohio Sky.
“We recorded this record live in a hunting lodge over a week in the summer of 2015. It really captures the refined performance of our band,” Ohio Sky said. “It’s like a high-fidelity journey through psychedelic and visual melody. Like the soundtrack to summer hailstorms and winter campfires.”
The Big Distraction was self-produced by Ohio Sky and was pressed locally at Gotta Groove Records. It follows the self-released 2013 EP This House Is Old and Full of Ghosts.
Ohio Sky formed in 2010 releasing a full album, a pair of EPs and a split since. The four-piece has shared stages with a variety of nationally touring acts, including Torche, Airborne Toxic Event, Cloud Nothings, Taking Back Sunday, Mr. Gnome, Seether and more. They also secured a slot at Roar Along the Shore and provided direct support for Jessica Lea Mayfield and Cloud Nothings at the NEO Cycle Festival. They also headlined the first night of the Cellar Door Rendezvous.
Armed with songs that camp out in your cranium for weeks at a time, The Big Distraction will further put Ohio Sky on the musical map in 2015. Watch the album trailer here.
